Rut Aguirre (b. 1992, Lima, Peru) is a visual artist whose work serves as a homage to the fluidity and dynamism of nature. Through organic textures and tones, she connects viewers to landscapes that oscillate between the dreamlike and the vital, inviting intimate contemplation. A graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from the Escuela Nacional Superior Autónoma de Bellas Artes del Perú (ENSABAP) in 2014, Aguirre has showcased her work in both solo and group exhibitions in Peru and internationally. Notably, in 2021, she presented the exhibition "El Nuevo Mundo/Die Neue Welt" at the Burg 2 Gallery in Germany, developed during her postgraduate studies at the Burg Giebichenstein Kunsthochschule Halle under the mentorship of artist Tilo Baumgärtel. Currently residing in Halle, Germany, she continues to explore themes related to the Peruvian landscape and human interaction with the environment. ​ "Exercises to Understand the River" stems from Aguirre's fascination with the Peruvian jungle and the disorienting sensation its landscape evokes. At ground level, the dense vegetation appears impenetrable, but from above, the jungle reveals its organization around the river, forming a sinuous, flowing line. The river, resembling a living serpent, folds, stretches, and contracts, adapting to and transforming the jungle in its path. Aguirre's work delves into this tension: the desire to comprehend a landscape that is never static, resisting mapping or containment. In its curves, meanders, and branches, the river serves as both path and boundary, order and chaos, guide and labyrinth. It draws and erases paths at will, simulating a dialogue between water and land, the fixed and the mutable, the need for orientation, and the inevitable sensation of getting lost.
